Job Description

AEX Recruitment is seeking An Engine Test Engineer (IC Engines) on behalf of our client based in , Bedford, a leading company in the field of development and testing within the automotive industry.

This role is to allow the candidate to develop in to a core member of the ICE team within Propulsion. The candidate will be expected to run a project with the support of a Senior Engineer, Principal Engineer or Engineering Manager. It is expected that the candidate will develop over time to become more autonomous and running more complex project work as customer demands change.

Job Description

  •  Ensure all H&S and quality procedures have been adhered to.
  •  To deliver engineering objectives set by the Senior Engineer, Principal Engineer or Engineering Manager.
  •  Generate engine installation packs and schematics for accurate test bed setups.
  •  Identify engine/test delivery faults and collaborate with others to find effective solutions.
  •  Processing and validation of engine test data.
  •  Analysing engine data and understanding correct trends and causes for concern.
  •  Supporting colleagues as required to achieve wider goals.
  •  Track project efficiency and maintain project related invoicing.
  •  Devise and lead initiatives to reduce waste and optimise efficiency.
  •  Take active part in regular customer update meetings

Skills

  •  Automotive/Mechanical Engineering HND, Degree.
  •  Relevant experience of testbed operation will be considered in place of qualifications.
  •  2 years minimum experience in an automotive engineering discipline
  •  Test bed experience in an automotive testing environment.
  •  Excellent understanding of gasoline and diesel engine mechanical fundamentals.
  •  Instrumentation experience (thermocouples, pressure transducers etc.).
  •  Able to create test automation procedures/schedules with a view to maximise automated running
  • Working closely with customer engineering teams to establish and carry out test programs
  • Experience of a wide variety of engine types would be advantageous (Petrol, Diesel, High Performance, Heavy Duty, Alternative Fuels, CEC Fuels Testing)

Skills

  •  Understanding of engine fundamentals and materials characteristics.
  •  Appreciation of electrical and mechanical engine diagnostics.
  •  Use of engine test cell equipment & software including engine dynos, instrumentation and calibration tools.
  •  Experience and understanding of emissions measurement equipment would be advantageous.
  • Working knowledge and experience of AVL Puma, Horiba STARS and/or Kratzer PATools test automation systems. In depth knowledge of other automation systems would be considered.
  •  Data interpretation, critique and presentation, using Excel and/or AVL Concerto.
  •  Ability to write formal reports using UTAC standard templates.
  •  Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
  •  Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  •  Strong organisational, analytical and problem solving skills.
  •  Highly motivated team player.
  •  Punctual and well organised with a methodical approach.
  •  Good communications skills with well noted documentation and work instruction.
  •  Good stakeholder engagement, ensuring the customer is kept at the centre of all decision making.
  •  Positive & professional attitude at all times with a customer focus.
  •  Ability to work under pressure and delegate where required.
  •  Excellent attention to detail and problem solving skills.
  •  Self-motivated / forward thinking / right first time attitude with the willingness to learn.
  •  Able to use a zero-blame culture to improvement of self and facility.
  •  Flexible and adaptable.
  •  High level of confidentiality and integrity

Salary/Hour

  •  Full-time, Permanent
  •  Up to £38,430.00 per year
  • Company pension
